Frequently asked questions

Is this a VA or government program?

No. Veteran Family Protection is a private insurance agency backed by veterans. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or part of the VA or any government agency.

Who can request coverage?

Veterans, active-duty service members and their families. Which policies are available depends on the carrier, your state and your age and health.

What types of coverage are available?

Final expense, whole life and term life insurance. An agent walks you through the options you qualify for.

Is this the same as VA life insurance?

No. This is private coverage from licensed insurance carriers. It is separate from any VA benefit, and you can keep any VA coverage you already have.

Will I need a medical exam?

Many final expense policies only ask a few health questions and do not require an exam. Some policies do. It depends on the carrier, the policy and the coverage amount.

Can I get coverage with health conditions?

You can still explore your options. Approval depends on each carrier’s underwriting. Some policies pay full benefits from the first day and others have a waiting period. Your agent will tell you which is which before you decide.

How are rates determined?

Carriers look at your age, health, tobacco use, the coverage amount, the type of policy and your state.

Will I see an instant price?

No. A licensed agent contacts you with prices from the carriers you qualify for, based on your answers.

When does coverage begin?

After the carrier approves your application and your first premium is paid. The start date and any waiting period are written in the policy.

Does requesting information mean I have to buy?

No. You can review the coverage, the price and the policy terms before deciding whether to apply.

How will my information be used?

To respond to your request. A licensed agent uses it to contact you about coverage options. See our Privacy Policy for details.
